The Volvo C70 Celebrated Its 20th Birthday in 2016

Breakout the cake and balloons. This year the Volvo C70 is turning 20 years old.

The amenity-filled car was originally unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in 1996. Not only did it show off a brand new slim body, but it was also Volvo’s first “proper” coupé since the 1800 model, not to mention the first time Volvo worked with the engineering team, TWR, on a new car. Volvo was accountable for the underlying structure of the vehicle and determined which features the car would have. TWR headed up design and production.

The coupé was manufactured until 2002, and the convertible drove on for another three years until April 2005. The second generation C70 convertible, which boasted a three-piece retractable hardtop, was launched at the Paris Motor Show in 2005.
